A year ago I watched New York City marathoners cross the Queensboro Bridge from my hospital room, so I felt very blessed this year to watch from mile 23. NYC Hash House Harriers camps out there, and I brought cornbread to share.
Cheering runners from all over the globe is a quintessential New York City joy.
After the after party at The Parlour on West 86th, I walked down Broadway all the way to Times Square, shouting “Congratulations!” at every person I saw draped in the blue NYC Marathon poncho. Without fail the haggard faces lit up with a “Thank you!” reply. What a beautiful city.
