After seeing very depressing paean to one percenters Crazy Rich Asians, I had to clean my palette, so I rushed to see Eighth Grade for its limited run. My thirst for authenticity was thoroughly satisfied. I do not have daughters, but I have several nieces near this age and screen time with Elsie Fisher expressed exactly their precious precarious lives.
My question: do any girls this age really have no friends? Even the oddest of oddballs seem to find a misfit twin. Also, is the cruelly cool Kennedy too much of a caricature out of Mean Girls? I feel she does not fit the true tone of the film. But these questions I must direct to the scholars of these squishy years: my nieces.
